Since its launch, the Corolla Cross has established itself as a serious option for buyers looking for an SUV with better fuel efficiency, modern features and Toyota’s established reputation for reliability. However, its relatively high price means that its advantages need to be weighed carefully against what competing vehicles offer.
The Corolla Cross is a compact SUV designed primarily for urban driving, family use and highway travel. The locally assembled model is built around a 1.8-liter engine, while the hybrid version combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. Toyota’s hybrid system can operate the vehicle using electric power in suitable conditions, combine the engine and electric motor when more power is needed, and recover energy during braking. This helps reduce fuel consumption, particularly in stop-and-go city traffic.
One of the biggest strengths of the Corolla Cross Hybrid is its fuel efficiency. Toyota says its locally manufactured Corolla Cross HEV can improve fuel mileage substantially compared with conventional vehicles, while also reducing emissions. The hybrid system also produces smooth acceleration and a relatively quiet driving experience.
